Our 9th grade Broadway Academy biologists recently became food scientists! Students tested classic Thanksgiving foods—like turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie—using chemical indicators to identify starches, sugars, proteins, lipids, and pH levels. Their goal? To analyze the nutritional makeup of each food and determine how different macromolecules impact our health and blood glucose levels.

This hands-on investigation helps students connect biology to real life by exploring how the foods we eat affect our bodies, homeostasis, and overall wellness.

The Broadway Academy National Junior Honor Society helped pack weekend meals for our community’s seniors through Meals on Wheels, and today our amazing 9th graders packed 1,200 backpacks at the Food Bank!
